After 2NE1′s MTV IGGY event last night, I found myself frantically searching Google for any information regarding the bubbly VJ Shenaz who was introduced to us in the crowd as a Bollywood Superstar. Now, being a self-proclaimed Bollywood buff myself, when the intro screen faded to black inside the Best Buy theatre last night, I excitedly waited in anticipation of seeing maybe Priyanka Chopra (since she was in the US recently recording portions of her first studio album) or at least Sophie Choudhry (who is a sometimes Bollywood actress/singer but bonafide MTV-Asia (India) VJ. Instead, when the LIVE feed went to the street camera we were greeted by a woman they called Shenaz Treasury of whom I had never heard of up until that moment…or so I thought. I hadn’t heard of MTV IGGY either but that’s another story entirely. Anyway, back to the Shenaz story, she was positioned outside with the Blackjacks who were unlucky enough not to make it into the Best New Band in the World Concert, getting their feedback and at one point she joined her colleagues in the studio dressed in her Bollywood attire shaking a leg to an impromptu song and dance number. The Blackjacks in the crowd went wild for her because she exuded so much effervescence and energy and rumours started floating that she’s one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.

Shenaz Treasurywala’s Bollywood Credits According to Wikipedia: Indian actress/Model who began acting in Tollywood movies (Telugu film industry) and crossed over to Bollywood (Hindi film industry) in her Filmfare Award (their equivalent of the Oscars) Nominated for Best Supporting actress role in the Shahid Kapoor/Amrita Rao film (Ishq Vishk). Her other Bollywood films include Hum Tum with Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan, Aagey Se Right with Shreyas Talpade & Kay Kay Menon, Radio with Himesh Reshamiyya & most recently in the highly acclaimed super hit film Delhi Belly with Imran Khan.
Okay Shenaz, I stand corrected, you are a Bollywood actress just not (at least at this point) a Bollywood Superstar. Let’s blame Sway for the over-hype, after-all the man did also insinuate last night that MTV is/was responsible for bringing K-POP to the mainstream. I’m still awaiting YouTube’s response to that.
