At the Cannes film festival, the L’Oreal girls have ruled the red carpet with glitz and flambouyant glamour for years and rightfully so seeing as L’Oreal is the official sponsor of the film festival. Paz Vega, who reportedly replaced fellow Spaniard Penelope Cruz as the face of L’Oreal Spain last year definitely got off on the right foot opting for a rather couture-ish black and white cut-out cleavage Stéphane Rolland gown. Fashionwidget’s pick for best dressed on Day 3 means yet another feather in the L’Oreal fashion cap at Cannes.
FYI: Actress Fan Bingbing is the face of L’Oreal China.

Right now, the title of best dressed at Cannes 2012 is Fan Bingbing’s to lose. From Elie Saab to Christopher Bu and now Valentino, she hasn’t yet met a design that upstaged her signature dramatic flare. With Cannes veteran fashion phenom Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan (rumour has it she’ll be there next week) painfully absent in the initial days of this year’s festival, Fashionwidget has found a new and welcome fashion favourite for the time being.

She certainly does evening wear well, not necessarily the big ball gown types but the cute little evening dresses, little black dresses, cocktail dresses and such. She is such a petite lady, so of course it would make sense that simple and precise looks would work best for her. So far at Cannes this year, this is my favourite look Eva has put forward for fashion. Her red carpet dresses from Day 1 and 2 were lukewarm but this right here is red hot! Well done, Eva.

Fashionwidget is deeply saddened this morning to learn of the passing of our beloved disco queen, Donna Summer who according to the associated press died yesterday of complications from battling lung cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her immediate family and friends at this difficult time. We mourn her loss alongside all fans of the acclaimed singer whose award-winning and chart-topping career spanned well over thirty years. Rest in peace, Donna.

Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture at the Cannes Premiere of ‘Rust and Bone’ walked the red carpet with a slew of people, it was nearly impossible to get a fashion shot. Thanks to the folks at BG for managing to snap this one of her alone in her dreamy gown. She looked phenomenal and was certainly one of (if not) the best dressed celebrity there.

My panel insist that most of the shots of Ms. Pinto from the ‘Rust & Bone’ premiere at Cannes last evening were taken of the actress in mid-stride. I have my reservations for that leg awkwardly sticking out like that a la Angelina Jolie at this year’s Oscars but let’s talk about how amazing Freida looks in this lime-yellow thigh-high slit dress instead. How wonderfully does the bright fabric off-set her naturally sun-kissed complexion? I don’t care much for the shoes, the clutch (which looks like Jimmy Choo) is awesome and considering how stunning she looked in a noir Versace (her second choice of attire from Day 1) it’s no wonder she opted for the same designer on Day 2. The less said about her Michael Angel, the better.

After a less than flattering red carpet debut in a flowery Michael Angel number on Day 1 of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Ms. Pinto was spotted in a sequin noir Versace thigh-high-slit dress at an after-party later that night. I would have preffered if she played up this look with lighter hued shoes and clutch but she looks stunning nevertheless.
