WHAT: Teen Choice Awards 2012
WHEN: July 22nd
WHERE: Universal City, California
Fashionwidget’s Verdict: I finally see Selena’s Gomez’s fashion potential, in the midst of try-hards and die-hards she along with (fashion favourite Nina Dobrev in J. Mendel) and Kat Graham managed to set the fashion standard for the night in colourful well-styled looks. Standing out for all the wrong reasons was Demi Lovato in Falguni and Shane Peacock because she not only looked like she was channeling Fergie, she seemed to be downright aping her from head-toe-toe. I have seen many people (Kim Kardashian, Fergie, Kat Graham, Jennifer Lopez, Sonam Kapoor, Malaika Arora etc.) pull off the Falguni and Shane Peacock look flawlessly without looking like they were trying to be someone else but Lovato threw me for a loop. Joe Jonas looked like his outfit was dry clean only but he realised that only after jumping into a pool and looked perplexed as it dried off on the red carpet. Taylor Swift who usually wows me with her style selections let me down by playing it safe in a pale monokini style ice-skater dress by Maria Lucia Hohan, still love her though. Debbie Ryan and Hayden Panettiere (who did a dis-service to a Zuhair Murad dress but wore the best shoes of the night) looked like they were moderators at a prom being attended by Peyton List…among others. Dress your age kids, enjoy your youth! The Mowry twins looked radiant. Apart from my best dressed picks, I truly appreciated seeing Gwen Stefani and her NO DOUBT bandmates (below) walk the red carpet dressed in almost-all back like punk-rock royalty, needing no category of their own.

WHO: Marion Cotillard, Dionne Bromfield & Anne Hathway
WHAT: The Dark Knight Rises Premiere
WHEN: July 18th, 2012
WHERE: London, UK
Fashionwidget’s Verdict: The fashion quotient was definitely higher at the London premiere of ‘TDKR’ last evening where we saw leading ladies in their best designer duds, braving chilly summer rain to walk the red carpet. Anne Hathaway and her pixie haircut continued with the goddess-like theme she began at the New York city premiere, showing up in a fluid flower-and-jewel-encrusted-neckline gown by Gucci while co-star Marion Cotillard decided to go the colour-blocking route in Christian Dior Couture. I still don’t fancy Hathaway’s style but I have to say this is an improvement from her NYC look. Kudos to her for opting for nude makeup in spite of the newly cropped haircut, it truly is a daring move not attempted on a major star since Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron boldly went there a few years back. Cotillard also wins fashion points for daringly blending four-shades orange successfully into one look. Also noteworthy on the red carpet was British singer and Amy Winehouse God-daughter Dionne Bromfield who walked the red carpet in a cutesy fringe accented LWD paired with blue peep-toe pumps and her million-watt smile.

The Look of the Day: Ashley Tisedale in a LWD by Camilla and Marc at the ‘Step Up Revolution’ Premiere
WHO: Ashley Tisedale
WHAT: Step Up Revolution Premiere
WHEN: July 17th, 2012
WHERE: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
Fashionwidget’s Verdict: If perfection had an image, it would look just like this. Tisedale is really coming into her stylish own, either that or she has a very good stylist. Hair…the highlights and extensions are age appropriate, fun and super sleek. Dress…even Australian design duo Camilla and Marc would agree that she did them proud in their chic strapless white mini dress. Style Candy…snakeskin fifi clutch by Lulu Guinness, silver jewellery and zebra stripped strappy heels polished off her brilliant look and guarantees that she will sit pretty on my front-page until another fashionista comes along and one-ups her fashion home-run. Young, Fresh, Relevant. Bravo Ms. Tisedale!

4. Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture
5. Hailee Steinfeld in Marc Jacobs
6. Anne Hathaway in Prabal Gurung
There is edgy and then there is going over the edge. That said, I was not a fan of anything I saw on the ‘TDKR’ red carpet, Anne Hathaway looked angelic but her style has never been my cup of tea. Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter Zoe was over-exposed and an E! Correspondent stole major thunder in a simple LBD. The premiere for the upcoming summer blockbuster was held Monday evening in New York City. Hoping for a better style outlook at the upcoming London premiere.
