The gowns were bright and elegant which brought extra oomph to the celebratory theme of the award ceremony on such a somber night (the eve of Whitney Houston’s funeral). The afore-mentioned colourful gowns were certainly a highlight for me. Jennifer Hudson looked and sang like a dream in a beautiful sky blue number. Paula Patton turned up the volume alongside a super fit Regina King as the ladies in bright red and Keke Palmer looked stunning in a strapless fuchsia gown. Viola Davis showed enough cleavage to satisfy the cleavage quota for the entire evening, the problem is…she wasn’t the only fashion maven there with her rack on prominent display. I felt it really distracted from her gorgeous gown and sincerely hope a stylist had nothing to do with that much show of skin on such a classy lady. I kept worrying that she would have a wardrobe malfunction but thankfully (at least to my knowledge) she did not. Phew!

I was very impressed with the turnout on the red carpet at the Image awards this year and while I am still reeling from the earth-shaking vocal performance by Yolanda Adams in tribute to her late friend Whitney Houston, I just thought I’d share some quick thoughts on what the fashions looked liked inside the shrine auditorium tonight. Octavia Spencer did not disappoint and continues to fly the flag for shapely woman everywhere, Garcelle Beauvais looked marvellous in stripes and while I thought that China Anne Mclain’s rosette adorned gown was too mature for her, she looked as lovely as ever.
