Mag Rack: What Do Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan Have in Common?
Besides their killer looks and stunning beauty? Both actresses have now been seen paying fashion tributes to iconic Hollywood characters from blockbuster films on the cover of international magazines. Rai-Bachchan did it first back in February 2011 when she graced the cover of Vogue India wearing a Natalie Portman in ‘Black Swan’ inspired Dior couture feathered blazer. Now Padukone (on the cover of GQ India August 2012) pays tribute to ‘Catwoman’ Anne Hathaway’s character from the Hollywood summer blockbuster ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ dressed in a skin-tight corseted leather suit complete with a jewel encrusted cat-eye mask.
While Rai-Bachchan is still on maternity leave following the birth of her first child in November of 2011, Padukone will next be seen in the movie ‘Race 2’ opposite John Abraham and her current hit film ‘Cocktail’ co-star Saif Ali-Khan.

Bollywood Fashion Update: Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan’s Yummy-Mummy Sidewalk Style
Not that it should matter to anybody but Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan appears to be steadily losing the baby-weight she had infamously received so much flack for following the recent birth of her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. The Indian actress and former Miss World has often be spotted in a long black Mullet shrug-coat (pictured) which seems to be her go to fashion accessory in light of her newly fuller figure and I have to say it is very flattering. In my personal opinion, when a person does not shop for a lot of clothing in a new size/shape they are in (especially following weight gain), it seems to indicate an eagerness to get back to the figure they once were. Hopefully, when she does people will realise that she owes them nothing.

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan dons Classic Sabyasachi Mukherjee at the Bvlgari Hotel Launch in London
Fresh off her most prolific Cannes Film Festival visit yet, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan walked the red carpet alongside the likes of Isabella Rossellini and Florence Welch Tuesday night in London, England as a special guest for the opening of the new Bvlgari Hotel and Residences.
The actress looked regal in black, off white and gold gown complete with a matching net shawl, dressed up with a black & gold Bvlgari Serpenti minaudière leather clutch (£3120, Harrods, Tel. 00 44 20 7225 6611) and MEDITERRANEAN EDEN ring in 18kt yellow gold with peridot and pavé diamonds (call Bvlgari Tel: 44 (0)20 7872 99 69 for price).

How to be stylish and protect your bundle of joy Bollywood-Hollywood Style
Victoria Beckham, Aishwarya Rai and Beyonce Knowles are powerhouses in fashion, movies and music respectively and from the looks of it, all three recent mothers need no advice when it comes to protecting their off-spring (Harper Seven, Aaradhya Beti-B & Blue Ivy).
In a Fashionwidget analysis of the compiled photos above, we’ve come up with a list of ten sensible ways to be stylish and protect your baby too.
THE DOs and DON’T of Celebrity with Baby Sidewalk Style:
1. DO invest in a pair of dark sunglasses. Chloe, Tom Ford, Dior are celebrity favourites when it comes to protecting their peepers. Nothing helps better than blending in with the masses public.
2. DO cover up your baby with a blanket, sheet or cloth as you strut and stroll.
3. DON’T engage or insight the paparazzo or paparazzi following you, not only will you look nasty in the resulting photographs but you would also be endangering the welfare of a child.
4. DO hire a security detail if you are super famous, no level of incognito will protect you once you’ve been spotted and recognised.
5. DO dress appropriately and behave like a sensible commoner. Loud outfits, ridiculous behaviour and pointless drama will only draw more attention to you and your off-spring.
6. DO carry your spawn with his or her face towards you, that way the chances of the photographers snapping their picture dwindles + you will be protecting the baby’s delicate eyes from the glaring flashbulbs.
7. DO release an official picture of your bundle of joy to the public. While you reserve the right to your own privacy, the chances of the paparazzi trying to out-do themselves in the hopes of getting the first shots of your baby’s face will diminish.
8. DO invest in a baby carrier a la Beyonce and Aishwarya, this way if a scuffle should ensue between you and a crazed fan or over-zealous photographer, your baby will be protected.
9. DO dress your baby sensibly, the whole ‘toddler fashionista’ thing is so over-rated. Let them be themselves, not an extension of you or what the public wants them to be. More importantly let them have and enjoy their childhood.
10. DO exercise some common sense when it comes to you and your child, be yourself and enjoy your motherhood.

Cannes Update: Hot Mamas Reese Witherspoon, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and Jackie Appiah
On day 11 and the eve of the grand-finale of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Hollywood’s Reese Witherspoon (curves and all) joined the red carpet parade of beautiful actresses on maternity leave. In a thin-multi-strapped blue empire-waist Versace gown, a visibly pregnant Witherspoon walked the red carpet at the premiere of her film ‘Mud.’ Also, beaming with motherly pride this year at Cannes were Bollywood’s Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan in Elie Saab on day 10 and Gollywood’s (Ghana’s film industry) Jackie Appiah in JiL Boutique on day 3.

Cannes Fashion Alert: Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan Silences Her Critics by Flaunting Her Curvy Figure in Elie Saab at the Cosmopolis Premiere

In the modified words of American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift…”One day, she’ll be strutting it on the red carpet and all you’re ever gonna be is mean…why you gotta be so mean?”
That was for all the sad netizens* of the world whose negative words caused this woman to be a number one trending topic last week, all because she gained a few pounds to bring another life into the world six months ago.
Our insane addiction to rail thin figures and unrealistic beauty ideals needs to come to a sreeching halt when we see others embrace the skin they are in. Most especially when the majority of people hiding behind anonymity of the internet will never achieve such ideals and are most likely in worse off shape than the people or person they are focusing their negative energy on.

On Day 10 of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan Chills Out in Roberto Cavalli for Her L’Oreal Photocall
No ifs ands or buts about it, this is a woman who is comfortable in the skin she’s in. Professional and precise & not dancing to the beat of anyone else’s drum, comfort was key as she opted for a tropical inspired Cavalli kaftan on her second day at the film festival this year. Tom Ford sunglasses and Giuseppe Zanotti heels balanced out her resort look as she answered questions from the press team assembled in her suite for the morning photocall. Asked if she had be phased by recent backlash regarding her baby weight gain, she said no and thanked her fans for their love, positivity and support which keeps the negativity from getting to her. As the first official face of L’Oreal Paris in India, she has attended the Cannes Film Festival eleven times in the past ten years.
