The Best of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – Russia Autumn/Winter 2011 Day 1 – Global Fashion

David & Aleksander

WHO: Russian Fashion Designers

WHAT: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – Russia Fall/Winter 2011/2012 – Day 1

WHEN: March 31st to April 5th

WHERE : Moscow, Russia

What Stood Out?

Slava Zaitsevhad enough designs in his Fall/Winter collection to fulfill the designer requirement for at least a full year (or even more) worth of fashion week(s) display(s). There was color and lots of it, just because these two seasons are colder does not mean they have to be boring. We think that was the idea behind it all. Lots of layering going on and not just for the clothes but the shoes and the boots too. Different colors and patterns with each new showcase, the more elaborate the better. Fur, fur, fur!!! (Sorry PETA, we love you but it gets extremely cold in Russia), Opaque stockings, opaque gloves, matching summer-colored opaque stockings and gloves. Big fancy hats, the more flamboyant the better. Floral evening gowns, metallic evening gowns, you name it, you got it. Other trends included but were not limited to: The flapper look, prints, Scottish kilts, trench coats, top-hats, silver chains, beads, feathers, bows, scarves, blood-red lips, smoking-eye (okay now we’re out of breath) and this is all from just one designer’s showcase. Phew! We’ve selected our favorites (and they were many) which can be viewed below.

Nadya Glaskova, Mariya Tsuman and Alla Belchenkova during the ContrFashion show,  the theme of this segment was very Alice-in-Wonderland meets the Snow-Queen. From Glaskova’s contrasting makeup theme (light eye-makeup versus dark lips) to match the black and white theme of the dresses in her show to the persistent color-blocking from Belchenkova’s displays. Other trends included : foot-less tights, opaque stockings and high buns.

Diktons had prints, sequins, mini skirts, wool sweaters and very slick hair trends. Etiem by Javier Canas still had summer in mind when designing with lots of color, lots of thin-fabric dresses, prints, strappy heel trends. Jota + Ge was quite festive, Caramelo had stunning LBDs that could!!!! And great stuff for men too, David & Aleksander think Lady Gaga Fashion and Lyudmila Norsoyan had trends that included: sideways pony tails, edgy makeup with lots of sheer burnt orange heavy on the dramatic-eye, scarf dresses, shawls as dresses, her use of this fashion accessory was very commendable.
