Fashionwidget’s Verdict: Priyanka (seen here at the April 5th, 2012 unveiling of her upcoming film ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ in Mumbai) had been doing so well on the red carpet until this beautiful red mis-step which I happen to prefer on the Lanvin model. The dress is great but just not on PC who has managed to make such a statement piece look rather matronly and unflattering.

She wore a saree inspired gown of which her nude pumps were totally wrong for the look. While Ms. Hilton certainly gets brownie points for trying, she should have gone all out and worn a full-on Indian look or stuck to a Western look like this one↓

Fashionwidget’s Verdict: First and foremost, congratulations to ace choreographer Ganesh and his wife Sunayna Hedge. We wish them all the best. Now on to the fashion statements that caught our peepers as have now become second nature on the wedding red carpets these days. Maybe the blogosphere is partially responsible for this new trend as we do pay attention to them whenever these events take place. I have always maintained that it is tacky to show up at someone’s wedding, dressed to take the attention away from the bride (anywhere in the world) not just in T-Town Bollywood.  A certain celebrity who recently tied the knot and opted for a low-key wedding (and who shall remain nameless) said that she/he would rather avoid a tamasha (Hindi: circus) style wedding altogether and I have to say that I cannot blame her/him given what wedding ceremonies have now morphed into for the Hindi film fraternity. Case in point the three lovely ladies featured in the photo compilation above, while Shamita Shetty should be considered part of the celebrant brigade (as it was her cousin Ganesh getting hitched) so her super flashy saree and skin show is excused, she was happy for her cousin I guess. But what is Priyanka Chopra’s excuse? And what does Sophie Choudhry have to say for herself dressing this way? IT’S A WEDDING!!! Not a movie premiere or music launch + respect your age if you are no longer in your early twenties or a teenager. I’m sure there is a way to drap this style saree without showing so much skin.  Just because there is a red carpet and the paparazzi have shown up does not give you the right to turn another person’s ceremony or event into a “tamasha” that’s just not cool. You dressed okay ladies, just not for this event. That said, I loved the ever classy Shilpa Shetty (pictured below) who came dressed for the occasion.  Once again, congrats to the newlyweds from the entire Fashionwidget team.

A Jumpsuit With Priyanka Chopra’s Name On It

It’s no secret that Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is currently trending the jumpsuit look and over the last year or so, the actress has sampled them at her red carpet events in nearly every variation imaginable. As a matter of fact, her most recent jumpsuit sighting was just last week in Mumbai at a Nikon event (where she was crowned brand ambassador) during their latest Nikon Coolpix launch.

We must admit, we were not too in love with her look at the event which is why we were psyched when we spotted this flesh-toned belted flared-pant jumpsuit by Salvatore Ferragamo during the brand’s Spring/Summer 2011 Collection showcase in Singapore. Perfect for Ms. Chopra don’t you agree?

Lackluster Lakme Fashion Week Had Us Missing Deepika Padukone

Lackluster Lakme Fashion Week [Summer/Resort 2011] had us missing the cat-walking days of Deepika Padukone, supermodel extraordinaire.

As the Summer/Resort 2011 Fashion in Mumbai, India draws to a close,  most fashion blogging mavens worth their salt find themselves scratching their heads and wondering when it all began in the first place? With most of the displayed collections leaving us with more of a feeling of “blah” rather than “oh-lah-lah” it’s small wonder that this fashion week came and went faster than that ‘Drive Angry 3D’ flick at the Box Office. Perhaps it was the absence of A-list show-stoppers we have become accustomed to gawking at on the runway or maybe the models just failed to bring that extra oomph to the collections. Sure you had your A-list guests like Kareena Kapoor at Manish Malhotra and Juhi Chawla and Urmila Matondkar at Anita Dongre’s show but still something was missing. Maybe it’s time for the next Anushka Sharma, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone. Yes, before they were famous actresses, they all did time as runway models and always brought the house down at every show they did.  Maybe we need that “It” model to get us all excited about Lakme Fashion Week again, that one model we’ll all be talking about even after the trends, the glitz and the glamour. A tradition that certainly was missing from this season’s catwalk.
