There is edgy and then there is going over the edge. That said, I was not a fan of anything I saw on the ‘TDKR’ red carpet, Anne Hathaway looked angelic but her style has never been my cup of tea. Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter Zoe was over-exposed and an E! Correspondent stole major thunder in a simple LBD. The premiere for the upcoming summer blockbuster was held Monday evening in New York City. Hoping for a better style outlook at the upcoming London premiere.
Attending a screening of ‘From Rome with love’ last evening in New York City, new mum and Academy-award-winning actress Penelope Cruz sent temperatures rising (seriously, it was like 100° yesterday) in a skin-tight lacy (if I had to guess, Dolce & Gabbana but correct me if I’m wrong) espresso-brown mini dress. What I love most about this look is the fact that everything matches to a tee (shoes, clutch, dress, hair) and the length of the dress is just right. This looks like a woman who is comfortable in her own skin and therefore does not feel the need to try so hard at all. In fine form, Mrs. Javier Bardem.
Held last night in New York City, for me the fashion statements at the Tony awards of the year 2012 did not register any better than India’s IIFA awards which took place a day before in Singapore. Catherine Zeta Jones was not there this year to spice things up and those who did show up, failed to sizzle.
I think it’s just that time of the year where except for resort wear, all the best red carpet looks for the current season have already been worn. I mean, Bernadette Peters showed up in the blue version of the red Donna Karan dress Nina Dobrev made supremely famous at the Emmys. She looked beautiful and was one of the best dressed stars last night but it was a bit underwhelming because we had seen it before and done to perfection. Audra Mcdonald looked stunning in a revival of cobalt blue and rounding out the top three best dressed was Beth Behrs in an effective red Naeem Khan gown.
Amanda Seyfried disappointed in an overly busy for night-time-telly Givenchy number, Sheryl Crow didn’t win either in a dull blue lacy number that did nothing for her cheerful personality or great body. The less said about Jessica Chastain who inexplicably put her boobs on reckless display in a lacy Mario Schwab mini dress, the better it will be for everyone.
JPS has been on a whirlwind promotional tour which began just about a month ago in Europe, what with the summer releases of hubby Will Smith’s ‘Men in Black 3’ and her own vehicle ‘Madagascar 3’ to promote around the world. Fashionwidget takes a look at how the last two weeks have been on the fashion circuit for the busy mother of two and her edgy style candy.

From Zoë Saldaña’s noir sheer cut-out Prabal Gurung to Solange Knowles in a yellow and white Marni mini, the fashions of the CFDA fashion awards were certainly a hot topic for discussion this year. I especially appreciated the understated elegance of Padma Lakshmi’s intricately detailed Naeem Khan gown, in a sea of colourful statement ensembles, I think she managed to stand out in black just like Zoë Saldaña. June Abrose glittered in silver sequins. Hilary Rhonda colour-blocked in cut-out perfection and Selita Ebanks was a vision in white. With the absence of Lady Gaga (a previous CFDA fashion award recipient) who stole the show and not to mention all the attention last year, there was room for all sorts of fashion statements this year. Fashionwidget, narrowed it down to the nine pictures as seen above, we also loved Devon Aoki in her amazing red and black Alice+Olivia strapless gown. Unfortunately, our photographer was unable to snap a photo of her. Never fear, I will re-blog or update this post if I stumble upon a photo of her (in the dress) that I can legally upload.

Only a woman who is comfortable enough in her own skin would be bold enough to mix so many shades of grey/gray as Ms. Weisz has done here and step out in public putting her best foot forward. Initially, I was not into the look but after staring at the pictures for a while I got inspired to create my own style substitutes as seen above (thank to Polyvore) and I also think that she managed to pull off the look.
