Bollywood Fashion Update: Actress Deepika Padukone’s Style Tour Begins

She has just begun a whirlwind promotional tour for her upcoming film ‘Cocktail’ so we are guaranteed to see more fashion risk taking from the Bollywood showstopper. Preliminary reports are good. I have to say I wasn’t expecting to see her so elegantly decked out in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee lehenga saree on Sunday as she walked the red carpet at the Filmfare South Awards. The tie-dye skinny jean and tank top look seems in line with the fashion sense of her ‘Cocktail’ character (at least based on what I picked up from the trailers) and as we know actresses tend to dress up as their characters during the film’s promotion. She seemed to be back to being Deepika in a jumpsuit, black peep toe pumps and fuchsia clutch when she stepped out for more promotional duties with her co-stars Saif Ali-Khan (pictured) & Diana Penty (not pictured). What I like about her style is the fact that while she never seems to be trying so hard she never stops short of reminding us of her days as a supermodel with her choice of fashion statements.

Even as she graces the cover of Women’s Health India July/August 2012 gone is her usual high-octane style replaced with a more resort/beach carefree look in line with ‘Cocktail’ tentatively scheduled to hit theatres on July 13th. Yes, Ms. Padukone is in full ‘Cocktail’ promo mode and (while it may be asking for too much) I hope she lands the upcoming covers of L’Officiel and Hi! Blitz magazines just for the sake of glamour. 馃檪

Breaking Cannes: Rumour has it that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan has arrived in London en route Cannes…

Breaking Cannes: Rumour has it that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan has arrived in London en route Cannes...

The question remains, what will she wear on the red carpet? Rai-Bachchan who recently gave birth to a baby has been a staple at the Cannes film festival since 2002 thanks in part to her versatile film roles (at least six films from her repertoire have been screened in or out of competition at Cannes) and her duty as brand ambassador for L’Oreal (the official sponsor of the film festival). Now in 2012, on the eve of her 11th consecutive visit to the prestigious film festival amidst cruel commentary about her recent weight gain, the international fashion blogosphere eagerly awaits her arrival. Will she favour one of her new go-to designer houses Abu-Sandeep? Or will she honour L’Oreal by sticking to western wear? Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has already squashed rumours that she will be wearing any of his designs. We’ll just have to stay tuned and see.
