Stylishly seen here on the cover of EYE (a section of the Indian Financial Express), former Indian supermodel turned actress Deepika Padukone is riding a tidal wave of popularity with the success of her recent films ‘desi boyz’ & the newly released ‘cocktail’ not to mention countless magazine covers that almost rival her days as a supermodel as well as numerous appearances promoting her brands. One such occasion was that of the world premiere of ‘cocktail’ in Mumbai last week where she debuted her newly curvy figure in a stunning 2012 bridal collection Sabyasachi saree. Previously in the week, she promoted the film wearing casual looks from Halston Heritage and Diesel, in all of which she looked on-trend and poised. IMG International’s Joan Smalls graces the cover of W Magazine for July 2012. The Supermodel style issue which also previews trends for Fall is on newsstands now.
N.B. Doesn’t she remind you of Tyra Banks (a little bit) in this shot?
You know, just the other day I was going through some old photos of the annual Cannes Film Festival and I spotted Laetitia Casta in quite few, walking the red carpet for L’Oreal (the official sponsors of the festival). I wondered why we hadn’t seen or heard from her in recent years (busy with family life I’m sure… she has three kids now).
Well, if you are a fan of perhaps the most popular face to grace those famous Guess advertisements then you’re in luck. Luxury designer brand Dolce & Gabbana recently unveiled the 34-year-old model as the new campaign ambassador for their line of perfumes.

Supermodel Miranda Kerr (pictured above) will be the face behind this campaign currently on display at the Lexington Avenue branch of the underwear company’s store in New York City. The bra will also be seen on the catwalk during the annual Victoria’s Secret Angel Fashion Show to be shown on US TV in November (check your local listings).

Hot on the heels of Cadbury UK’s Chocolate-gate scandal in which the popular confectioner ran a print advertisement with the tag line “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town…” for the launch of their new brand of chocolate which seemed to refer to the famed supermodel Naomi Campbell. The supermodel took offense, citing racial degradation and the company has since done away with the ads and issued an apology to the supermodel. Now Elle Canada (apparently they missed the memo) has featured a similar tag line in their July 2011 issue next to a picture of their cover girl, 16-year-old up and coming model Herieth Paul who is being touted as the next best thing. My question is, would they ever do this to Kate Moss? Eerily enough, a colleague of mine pointed out that she (Paul) bears an uncanny resemblance to Campbell, even though I fail to see it. Let’s wait and see how this one pans out.

FASHIONWIDGET’S VERDICT: We did not have Spring in New York City this year so we gladly welcomed this amazingly colourful Prabal Gurung Spring 2011 frock as soon as we spotted it on the red carpet worn by Supermodel Iman Bowie. It has been said that extremely beautiful women usually rely on their beauty to carry them through everything including fashion. That is not the case with Iman, a woman over 50 with a fashion sense that is as forward thinking as it is sophisticated and revolutionary. Many would argue that she is a beneficiary of the fact that she has been in fashion for a good portion of her life thus far but I say you cannot by style and you can buy class. You either have it or you don’t and this woman has it times 2. Beauty and grace with style to boot.
