Indian actress Esha Deol is now Mrs Esha Deol-Takhtani. Deol and her businessman hubby Bharat Takhtani tied the knot Friday in India before a close-knit group of family and friends. The bride and groom both wore custom-made outfits by Neeta Lulla. I guess I spoke too soon when a few days ago I applauded Deol for opting to wear a non-traditional designer (Rocky S) for her sangeet because she ended up predictably (Neeta and daughter Niksha Lulla were the only fashion designers who attended her sangeet) wearing a traditional wedding designer on her wedding day. I cannot knock her fashion game though, she looked magnificent.

The wedding festivities have begun for actress Esha Deol, the daughter of legendary Bollywood actors Dharmendra Deol and Hema Malini. In many Indian traditions, wedding ceremonies and festivities can last up to a week. The bollywood bride showed up at her sangeet (festival of song and dance) draped in a golden orange lehenga choli (skirt and small blouse) designed by edgy designer and one of Fashionwidget’s favourites, Rocky S. Bharat Takhtani, her handsome husband-to-be is not from the film industry.
I have to admit, when I heard whispers that Deol was going to be wearing something by Rocky S, I was thrilled because it takes a really bold and gutsy girl to want to shy away from the traditional favourites like Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar, Neeta Lulla and Sabyasachee Mukherjee in favour of a designer known for his innovative yet often risqué designs. Let’s not ignore the fact that Ms. Deol’s main squeeze is a total hit in his navy blue velvet embroidered sherwani suit, the bride-to-be made sure to remind everybody who the original ‘Dhoom’ girl (akin to bond girl, in India) truly is by showing off her assets while remaining stylish and classy. To a truly stunning couple, best wishes.

Verdict: Functional, inspired yet colourful and creative looking bridesmaid gowns a girl would actually think about wearing again. The nude pumps on the short dresses are a bit distracting but other than that, we love!

Fashionwidget’s Verdict: First and foremost, congratulations to ace choreographer Ganesh and his wife Sunayna Hedge. We wish them all the best. Now on to the fashion statements that caught our peepers as have now become second nature on the wedding red carpets these days. Maybe the blogosphere is partially responsible for this new trend as we do pay attention to them whenever these events take place. I have always maintained that it is tacky to show up at someone’s wedding, dressed to take the attention away from the bride (anywhere in the world) not just in T-Town Bollywood. A certain celebrity who recently tied the knot and opted for a low-key wedding (and who shall remain nameless) said that she/he would rather avoid a tamasha (Hindi: circus) style wedding altogether and I have to say that I cannot blame her/him given what wedding ceremonies have now morphed into for the Hindi film fraternity. Case in point the three lovely ladies featured in the photo compilation above, while Shamita Shetty should be considered part of the celebrant brigade (as it was her cousin Ganesh getting hitched) so her super flashy saree and skin show is excused, she was happy for her cousin I guess. But what is Priyanka Chopra’s excuse? And what does Sophie Choudhry have to say for herself dressing this way? IT’S A WEDDING!!! Not a movie premiere or music launch + respect your age if you are no longer in your early twenties or a teenager. I’m sure there is a way to drap this style saree without showing so much skin. Just because there is a red carpet and the paparazzi have shown up does not give you the right to turn another person’s ceremony or event into a “tamasha” that’s just not cool. You dressed okay ladies, just not for this event. That said, I loved the ever classy Shilpa Shetty (pictured below) who came dressed for the occasion. Once again, congrats to the newlyweds from the entire Fashionwidget team.

South-East Asia meets West Africa. Certainly a very lovely looking couple and ceremony. I love the wedding theme and the color contrasts of white and gold looked simply stunning on the bride. It definitely was a bummer that her older sister, actress Nadia Buari could not attend. She is currently away on location somewhere in the United States shooting scenes for her next film, according to an official statement released by their father Alhaji Sidiku Buari.
