RIP Fashion

She’s a porn star, what were you expecting? Victoria Beckham?

Fire Your Stylist

Who died and asked Sunny Leone to give their eulogy?

It’s a boring all-black ensemble with the red belt refusing to do its job of adding spunk. What an amateur attempt at spicing up a LBD.

This is what an 80-year-old billionaire’s 20-year-old wife might wear to his funeral. You just know she’s going to drop the jacket, rip that turtle neck and those sleeves and go partying with the pool boy after the service.

Sporting sleek shoulder length hair with highlighted bangs and wearing a traditional red saree adorned with golden accents complete with what looks like bridal henna on her hands and arms, Halle Berry appears to be portraying an Indian bride in this movie still taken from the upcoming Hollywood film ‘Cloud Atlas’ in which the Oscar™ winner is said to be portraying several characters. The film, due in theatres this Autumn, also co-stars fellow Oscar™ winners Susan Sarandon, Tom Hanks and Jim Broadbent.

Interesting.

Perverted Wisdom

Windows is a bad name for a product. Looking at a window either means you’re indoors bored or you’re outdoors pervin’.  Oh yeah, and they break.

Windows are too much like people.  They get dirty.  They get fat under high humidity and lack of exercise.  Windows need clothes.  What else in the house besides you needs to wear a frilly skirt all the time?

Windows need blinds and curtains and screens and tinting and locks and alarms and brave-but-doomed men to scrub them 200 feet in the air.

And glass isn’t even a reliable solid–pure science tells us it’s just a lazy-ass liquid that hasn’t gotten around to spilling yet.

How much human blood has been shed over glass?  (None by me–I think with my feet, thank you.  But other people.  Oafs.)

And don’t forget Kristallnacht.  Those were windows.

Instructive riddle:  What’s the opposite of “safety glass?”

Glass.

Windows…

Mag Rack: Former ANTM Contestant/Bollywood Actress Nargis Fakhri Covers Marie Claire India – August 2012

Often criticised for over-accentuating her luscious lips, newly minted starlet Nargis Fakhri seems to be having the last laugh as she has landed yet another fashion magazine cover with just one movie (2011’s Roskstar) under her belt and just two years in Bollywood. The lovely maroon coloured long-sleeved crocheted dress and understated makeup really helped play up her exotic looks. Last month, she posed for the cover of the prestigious fashion glossy, Hi! Blitz.

Mag Rack: Model/Indian Actress Diana Penty Covers Vogue India in Pucci – July 2012

I typically do not like mullet dresses but Diana Penty made me look twice when I spotted her in this lacy mini embellished showstopper’s frock this afternoon while browsing the magazine rack. The stunning former runway model who made her acting debut in the Bollywood hit movie ‘Cocktail’ alongside Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali-Khan, covers the current issue of Vogue – India. The issue is available on international newsstands as well as in abridged digital form at vogue.in

Style and Fashion at the Teen Choice Awards 2012 – the Good, the Bad and the What on Earth???

WHO: In chronological order…Nina Dobrev, Selena Gomez, Kat Graham, Lea Michele, Jordan Sparks, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Will.i.am, Ian Somerhalder, Hayden Panettiere, Debbie Ryan, Peyton List, Demi Lovato, Jojo, Victoria Justice, Bella Thorne, Joe Jonas, Rebecca Black, Tia and Tamera Mowry, NO DOUBT.

WHAT: Teen Choice Awards 2012

WHEN: July 22nd

WHERE: Universal City, California

Fashionwidget’s Verdict: I finally see Selena’s Gomez’s fashion potential, in the midst of try-hards and die-hards she along with (fashion favourite Nina Dobrev in J. Mendel) and Kat Graham managed to set the fashion standard for the night in colourful well-styled looks. Standing out for all the wrong reasons was Demi Lovato in Falguni and Shane Peacock because she not only looked like she was channeling Fergie, she seemed to be downright aping her from head-toe-toe. I have seen many people (Kim Kardashian, Fergie, Kat Graham, Jennifer Lopez, Sonam Kapoor, Malaika Arora etc.) pull off the Falguni and Shane Peacock look flawlessly without looking like they were trying to be someone else but Lovato threw me for a loop. Joe Jonas looked like his outfit was dry clean only but he realised that only after jumping into a pool and looked perplexed as it dried off on the red carpet. Taylor Swift who usually wows me with her style selections let me down by playing it safe in a pale monokini style ice-skater dress by Maria Lucia Hohan, still love her though. Debbie Ryan and Hayden Panettiere (who did a dis-service to a Zuhair Murad dress but wore the best shoes of the night) looked like they were moderators at a prom being attended by Peyton List…among others. Dress your age kids, enjoy your youth! The Mowry twins looked radiant. Apart from my best dressed picks, I truly appreciated seeing Gwen Stefani and her NO DOUBT bandmates (below) walk the red carpet dressed in almost-all back like punk-rock royalty, needing no category of their own.

Another Day Another Victim of Photoshop Anarchy: Bollywood’s Kareena Kapoor

A few months ago Fashionwidget reported that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor had shot a sizzling item number for her upcoming film ‘Heroine’. Photos that floated out from behind-the-scenes showed a scantily clad Kapoor (wearing Manish Malholtra) proudly showing off her curvy figure which made it all the more shocking when the official posters were released this past weekend, with one of them showing the actress looking more like a rail-thin supermodel compared with what we’d previously seen. Gone were the curves, her cherubic face and full arms replaced by a too-thin-to-be-real waistline, suspicious looking bosom area, toned tummy, poreless skin and thinner arms. To call this an enforcement of an unfair ideal would be understating the obvious. To be fair, the movie which reportedly has received an “A” certificate (India’s answer to the NC-17 feature) is not marketed towards tweens and teens but that does not excuse this Photoshop fiasco.

A Run On of Thoughts

I can’t get this odd feeling out of my chest. This empty, almost sickening feeling won’t go away. I noticed this feeling when I was in the Eaton Center in Toronto just seconds before someone opened fire in the food court. An odd feeling which led me to go outside and unknowingly out of harm‘s way. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting.

What started off as a trip to the mall to get sushi and shop, ended up as a day that has forever changed my life. I was on a mission to eat sushi that day, and when I’m on a mission, nothing will deter me. When I arrived at the Eaton Center mall, I walked down to the food court and spotted a sushi restaurant. Instead of walking in, sitting…
